Troopers Investigate Theft of Political Signs – Update

Wilmington, DE – Delaware State Police have arrested a 47 year old Wilmington man and charged him in connection with the theft of a single political campaign sign that occurred last week.

On Saturday, September 3, 2016, Jeffrey R. Waxman, 47, of Wilmington, turned himself in at Troop 1, Penny Hill, where he was charged with one count of Theft Under $1500. He was arraigned at JP Court 11 and released on his own recognizance. A mugshot photograph of Waxman is not available at this time.

The investigation began on Sunday, August 28, 2016, after a 54 year old Wilmington, DE resident, who is currently running for a political office, responded to Troop 1 to report that approximately 425 signs belonging to her campaign have been removed from numerous locations throughout New Castle County. The victim stated that the thefts occurred sometime between Saturday, August 27, 2016 and Sunday, August 28, 2016. After conducting several interviews troopers were able to identify Waxman as a suspect in the theft of a single sign which had been posted in the area of 1300 Lovering Avenue, Wilmington.

The investigation into the theft of the remaining political signs is still on-going.

The investigation began on Sunday, August 28, 2016, after a 54 year old Wilmington, DE resident, who is currently running for a political office, responded to Troop 1 to report that approximately 425 signs belonging to her campaign have been removed from numerous locations throughout New Castle County. The victim stated that the thefts occurred sometime between Saturday, August 27, 2016 and Sunday, August 28, 2016.

This is an on-going and active investigation by the Delaware State Police. No further information is available at this time and no arrests have been made.
